1) Commit to a lifestyle change
Getting fit and healthy isn’t about pushing yourself hard for 12 weeks and be done with it. It is about changing your relationship with yourself, your body and your food. Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you can never laze around in front of the tv and eat chocolate again. But it does mean that healthy habits have to become part of your everyday life. Nutrition is important here as food is your body’s fuel. When exercise becomes part of your life, you need to give your body the right balance of proteins, fats and carbs.
And we won’t lie: it can be difficult at the start. But stick with it and you’ll find yourself realising you have never had so much energy, slept so well or felt so healthy. Own the change and be amazed at the results!
2) Make it a habit
The secret to success is to have a routine. Once exercise is part of your life, it is much easier to keep going. In fact, before long you will miss your workout if you have to skip one. Make time in your life to exercise. Be careful to not put your work-out in a place where it will easily be pushed aside by something more important. Work out which times work best for you: for many people this is first thing in the morning, right after work, after the kids’ school run.
Finding a training buddy can help as well: it motivates you to show up, have fun and perhaps even satisfy your competitive streak.
3) Consider personal training
There is no better way to kick start and fast track your new lifestyle than to have someone to teach you and to cheer you on. We highly recommend personal training to make sure your exercise routine gets off on the right foot. A personal trainer helps you design the right program for your situation, teaches you how to train properly, keeps you motivated and pushes you just that little bit further than you would push yourself. 4) Set realistic goals and reward yourself
Do yourself a favour and don’t start off with a goal that is too big or too far away…it is much easier to stay motivated when you set yourself realistic, attainable, short term goals. And make sure you celebrate your success when you reach a goal: you’ve earned it!
5) Change your workout regularly
Variety and challenge are the key to long-lasting success and fitness. Make sure your routine has a bit of everything in it. It’s not enough to follow a routine where you always do the same exercise, the same way, at the same speed, for the same amount of time. Not only might you get bored, but your body will adapt to it. This is the main reason why people ‘plateau’. We will help you with this and are always happy to suggest changes in your routine.
